About this book

Aloysius Archer, a World War II veteran recently released from prison, travels west to California in the 1950s seeking a fresh start. After a stop in Reno where he acquires cash and a 1939 Delahaye convertible, he continues to Bay Town, California with Liberty Callahan, an aspiring actress heading to Hollywood. In Bay Town, Archer apprentices with Willie Dash, a legendary private investigator and former FBI agent. He quickly becomes involved in a blackmail case targeting a wealthy politician running for mayor. The case escalates into something more dangerous, pulling Archer and Dash into the underworld of brothels, gambling dens, and drug operations. As bodies accumulate, the two men must navigate the hidden corruption beneath Bay Town's facade of opportunity, uncovering secrets that threaten to become Archer's undoing.
