About this book

The second volume in the hard science fiction series by physicist Gregory Benford. Set in 2076, technology has advanced humanity into a new age of enlightenment. Nigel has left Earth to explore space and search for alien life. However, while on this mission, Earth comes under attack and its seas become seeded with alien lifeforms. Nigel now searches for the Snark, an alien machine that once saved him before. Having left the solar system and turned against its alien creators, the Snark's current allegiances are uncertain. Nigel must determine whether the Snark remains a friend or has become a deadly threat.
