About this book

Nick Heller, a private investigator who uncovers secrets for powerful people, returns in this novel following his introduction in Vanished. Based in Boston, Nick is contacted urgently by an old family friend: hedge fund titan Marshall Marcus. Marcus's teenage daughter, Alexa, has been kidnapped in a sophisticated, professional operation. Alexa is held prisoner in an underground crypt with limited food and water, her suffering broadcast live online. Her kidnappers have made demands, threatening her life if they go unmet. As Nick investigates, he discovers troubling details about Marcus's business. The hedge fund is under FBI investigation, Marcus has questionable investors, and his operation faces serious danger. Nick realizes Marcus has accumulated powerful enemies who may have motivation to target his daughter. To find Alexa and identify her captors, Nick must uncover why she was taken.
