Perfect for you if...

  • You're drawn to stories of faith tested under extreme circumstances and want to understand what conviction actually looks like when lives depend on it.
  • You read memoirs for the human resilience element: how ordinary people find meaning and purpose inside unimaginable suffering.
  • You're interested in the reality of religious persecution today and want perspectives from those who've lived through it firsthand.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer memoirs that dwell primarily on trauma recovery rather than stories centred on spiritual conviction and witness.
  • You're seeking a critical examination of religious belief; this is a testimonial written from faith, not about questioning it.
  • You want a quiet, introspective read. This is unflinching and confrontational about both the horror and the hope.

About this book

Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh were converts who became evangelists in Iran, where Islamic law forbade sharing Christian beliefs. Over three years, they distributed New Testaments to approximately twenty thousand people and established two secret house churches. In 2009, they were arrested and imprisoned in Evin Prison in Tehran, where inmates face routine torture and executions. Despite interrogations, persecution, and a death sentence, the two women chose to continue sharing their faith within the prison itself. This memoir documents their 259 days in Evin Prison, recounting their experiences of God's provision during suffering, their efforts to survive and maintain their faith, and how they brought hope to other prisoners. The account addresses themes of faith, conviction, and discipleship under extreme circumstances.
