Deadlock (Deadbreak Book 2)

Eight years after the events of Deadbreak, the narrator pursues a group called Verum Ex across the northern plains after they kidnap someone irreplaceable. The chase is complicated by the group's assault rifles, the CCB's continued attempts at taxation, and the millions of undead creatures roaming the apocalyptic landscape. With a small crew and a dog who effectively leads the operation, the narrator faces escalating dangers: firefights in abandoned towns, exploration of zombie-infested sewers, and being trapped in a gulch. The trail leads to Bayside, a massive survivor fortress constructed inside an old Costco, where they discover a critical problem. As the CCB closes in and the dead gather at the automated doors, the fortress walls are breached. What begins as a firefight becomes a full siege with heavy gunfire. Beyond Bayside lies a hospital that holds the answers the narrator seeks, but survival through the immediate conflict is uncertain.
