About this book

Set in 1989, this novel follows Joe Agabian and his best friend Ronnie as they spend their first summer working in Fire Island Pines, a gay community. Joe hopes to move past the loss of his boyfriend to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The two friends are taken in by Howie and Lenny, older house cleaners who are secretly members of a disco witch coven protecting the island and its residents from ongoing tragedies. The coven's powers have weakened after losing many members to the epidemic. Joe begins to develop feelings for a bisexual ferryman with webbed feet and unusual underwater abilities. However, his romantic pursuits are complicated by his past and attraction to a mysterious man on the island whom Howie and Lenny believe may signal impending danger. As a mysterious threat called the Great Darkness looms, the coven must find a way to protect Joe and the island. The novel combines elements of fantasy romance, community, and historical setting during a period of significant loss.
