Distant Thunder

Susan Hurst survives a massacre of her parents by Confederate deserters and is placed in an orphanage, where she begins training to become a nun. Throughout her time there, she is haunted by thoughts of Daniel Crocker, a young protector she has grown to love. Daniel, who lost his own family young, learned to survive and protect others at the children's home. He has since become known as a ruthless frontier lawman. When he learns that Susan is about to take her vows and enter religious life, he realizes he cannot let her go. A chance reunion in Wyoming Territory brings Susan and Daniel together again. Their hearts remain bound by unspoken love, but they must confront the past that separates them before they can build a future together. Set against the Old West, their story traces a childhood bond that develops into adult passion.
