TESLA is a secret weather research station located in Antarctica, designed by Greg Simpson for Flint Agro-Chemical. The station creates weather patterns globally, enabling Flint to achieve large harvests while damaging competitors through hailstorms and drought. TESLA also assists the Pentagon by generating favorable weather conditions for military operations. When Greg makes a secret deal with the Pentagon, Flint executives replace him with Tess Beauchamp. Upon arrival, Tess discovers that Greg's second-in-command, Nik Forde, was someone she had a brief affair with ten years earlier. Shortly after Greg leaves Antarctica under Flint security, his encrypted computer programs activate, unleashing destructive weather across all continents' grain-growing and livestock-farming regions. Tess and Nik must decode Greg's programs and shut down TESLA before the US government, unwilling to allow global agriculture to be destroyed by storms, fire, avalanches, and tsunamis, launches a nuclear missile at the base.
