Halo: Ghosts of Onyx

Set in the twenty-sixth century, this novel follows the Spartan-II program after it becomes public knowledge. While the Master Chief defends Earth against Covenant attacks, a secretive branch of the Office of Naval Intelligence called Section Three develops a plan to give the UNSC additional time in their war. The plan requires hundreds of soldiers and another Spartan to succeed. The abandoned planet Onyx is chosen as the location for this operation. However, when the Master Chief destroys Halo, ancient Forerunner technology on Onyx is activated. Both UNSC and Covenant fleets race to reach and control this technology, hoping to shift the balance of the Human-Covenant War. The awakened ancient force, however, may have its own agenda.
