Hang the Moon: A Novel

A historical novel set in Prohibition-era Virginia, following Sallie Kincaid, daughter of Duke Kincaid, a powerful man in a small town. Born at the turn of the 20th century into privilege, Sallie grows up with little memory of her mother, who died in a violent confrontation with the Duke. When her father remarries and has a son, Eddie, Sallie attempts to toughen her timid, cerebral half-brother through daredevil lessons. An accident results, and Sallie is cast out from the family. Nine years later, Sallie returns determined to reclaim her place. She discovers the effort is far more complex than anticipated, entering a world marked by conflict and lawlessness. As she uncovers family secrets and navigates factional tensions within her family and town, Sallie emerges as a bold and sometimes reckless bootlegger, ultimately coming into her own.
