Dr. Abby DiMatteo is a surgical resident at Boston's Bayside Hospital who is recruited to join the hospital's elite cardiac transplant team. When a car crash victim's healthy heart becomes available, it is cross-matched to wealthy patient Nina Voss. Abby makes a bold decision to redirect the heart to a dying seventeen-year-old boy who is also a perfect match, jeopardizing her career.
