About this book

Gerold Frank's biography traces the life of Judy Garland through more than two hundred interviews and authorized access to her private papers. Frank had begun collaborating with Garland on her autobiography, but completed the work independently following her fatal overdose in 1969. Drawing on extensive interviews with family members, doctors, and Hollywood associates, as well as her personal records and photographs, Frank examines the complexities of Garland's life and career. Garland, known for films including The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St. Louis, and A Star Is Born, became an American icon whose exceptional talent was accompanied by significant personal struggles. The biography includes photographs and explores the circumstances that shaped her life story.
