  • You're interested in the Vietnamese Ranger forces and their crucial, overlooked role in the war.

Maybe not for you if...

About this book

This military memoir examines a battle from the Vietnam War that has received little historical attention. In June 1967, the Viet Cong attempted to isolate and destroy an elite South Vietnamese unit as part of a new offensive strategy. They sent a former POW to act as an informant, deceiving the 52nd Vietnamese Ranger Battalion into occupying a vulnerable position in the III Corps sector of South Vietnam. During the resulting ambush, members of the 52nd Ranger Battalion demonstrated skill and valor. As one of those soldiers, Keith Nightingale provides a firsthand account of the day's events. Drawing on his personal experience and After Action Reports from multiple sources, the memoir presents perspectives from both allied and enemy forces. The book offers insight into the role of the elite Vietnamese Ranger forces, intelligence gathered from captured Rangers, and an eyewitness perspective on this understudied Vietnam War battle.
