Kingdom of the Blind: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel

When an unusual letter arrives inviting Armand Gamache to an abandoned farmhouse, the former head of the Sûreté du Québec discovers that a stranger has named him one of the executors of her will. Still on suspension, Gamache accepts and learns that the other two executors are Myrna Landers, a bookseller from Three Pines, and a young builder. None of them had met the elderly woman. The will contains odd bequests so unlikely that Gamache suspects the woman was delusional. But when a body is found, the bizarre terms suddenly seem far more menacing. Gamache must also contend with an ongoing investigation into events from six months prior that led to his suspension. While most opioids he allowed to slip through his hands to bring down cartels have been retrieved, a devastating exception remains: enough narcotic to kill thousands has disappeared into inner city Montreal. As Gamache pursues increasingly desperate measures to retrieve the drug before it reaches the streets, he begins to confront his own blind spots and the terrible things hidden there.
