About this book

In a world of crystalline lifeforms called The Lustrous, each gem must defend their existence against lunarians who seek to capture them as decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile of all gems, wishes to participate in combat but is instead assigned to create a natural history of their world. Though Phosphophyllite initially views this task as tedious and meaningless, the assignment leads to contact with Cinnabar, a gem living in forced isolation. This unexpected connection raises the question of whether Phosphophyllite's seemingly ordinary job might provide both gems with the purpose they seek.
