Machine: A White Space Novel

Machine is set in the same universe as the White Space series. A space station begins to unravel when a routine search-and-rescue mission returns after going dangerously awry. Doctor Jens is a physician who jumps out of spaceships and develops treatments for unknown alien species. She loves her work, despite lacking decent coffee for fifteen years. When a search-and-rescue mission goes wrong, Dr. Jens discovers two ships—one ancient and one new—locked together. The crew suffers from an unknown ailment, and the shipmind is trapped in an inadequate body with significant memory loss. Unable to resist a mystery, Dr. Jens investigates. Her digging uncovers horrifying and life-changing truths. The novel is a space opera that combines suspenseful and sentimental storytelling.
