About this book

On January 29, 2008, a young mother in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, pleaded publicly for help finding her missing twelve-year-old daughter, Karissa Boudreau. After thirteen days of searching, Karissa was found dead in a snowbank. Her mother, Penny Boudreau, was arrested and charged with her murder. Journalist Sherri Aikenhead witnessed Penny's confession in Nova Scotia Supreme Court and decided to document the case. She examined official police records, RCMP investigative files, court documents, and Parole Board of Canada decisions. Through interviews with Karissa's family and friends, and an account from an undercover agent involved in the Mr. Big operation that led to Penny's confession, Aikenhead reconstructs the events surrounding Karissa's death. The book includes fifteen black-and-white photographs, some provided by Karissa's family, and explores how a mother came to murder her own child.
