In this sequel to Into the Mist, a group of women navigate survival and community-building in a world transformed by catastrophic events. When bombs released a green mist into the atmosphere, it proved fatal to men but granted women extraordinary abilities. Mercury Rhodes and her companions—Stella, Imani, Karen, and Gemma—each gained unique powers: heightened intuition, earthly connection, spiritual bonding, and healing respectively. Mercury herself developed incredible physical strength. The group has established a small community in the John Day Fossil Preserve near the Painted Hills in Oregon, hoping to rebuild and create a better world. However, their efforts at peace are threatened. Mercury knows they are being hunted by something—or someone—with intentions to dominate the ruins of civilization. She has been identified as a threat that must be eliminated. As Mercury confronts this danger, the survival of her companions and the future of the world hang in the balance.
