Patton's Prayer: A True Story of Courage, Faith, and Victory in World War II

In December 1944, General George Patton faced a critical problem. Rain had fallen continuously since September, turning roads into mud and grounding American warplanes. The advance toward Berlin had stalled, costing thousands of American lives. Desperate for a change in weather, Patton, a devout Christian, asked his head chaplain for a prayer about the weather. The resulting prayer was printed and distributed to the 250,000 men under Patton's command, instructing them to pray for good weather and victory. Shortly after, the Battle of the Bulge erupted. German forces attacked American lines in Belgium's Ardennes Forest, overwhelming troops and moving toward the vital crossroads town of Bastogne, where the 101st Airborne was positioned. Thick fog and heavy snow covered the region. With frozen roads stretching south and the enemy closing in, Patton urgently needed an answer to his prayer before it was too late.
