  • You're drawn to historical fiction that weaves real historical figures (like the School of Night) into supernatural intrigue.
  • You want time-travel fantasy that's more about character and consequence than plot mechanics.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer standalone novels and don't want to commit to a trilogy.
  • You find slow pacing or lengthy world-building tedious, as this book dwells on historical detail and character development.

About this book

The second book in the All Souls trilogy, Shadow of Night continues from the cliffhanger ending of A Discovery of Witches. Reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont travel through time to Elizabethan London, where they encounter spies, magic, and a group called the School of Night—composed of Matthew's former associates. As Diana and Matthew continue searching for Ashmole 782, the lost enchanted manuscript that brought them together, Diana seeks out a witch to teach her magic. Matthew's past begins to close in on them, forcing the pair to undertake a new and more dangerous journey. The novel weaves together historical elements, romance, and the ongoing mystery of the manuscript.
