About this book

Swords and Deviltry collects four adventure stories introducing Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, characters created by Fritz Leiber, who coined the term "sword and sorcery." The collection is the first in an influential series. In "Induction," set in the realm of Nehwon, fate brings together young prince Fafhrd and apprentice magician the Gray Mouser, beginning a lifelong friendship. In "The Snow Women," Fabhrd seeks freedom from his mother's enchantments through his love for a beautiful actress. "The Unholy Grail" follows Mouse as he studies forbidden sorcery and crosses the line between white and black magic to avenge a wrong. In the novella "Ill Met in Lankhmar," Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser disguise themselves as beggars to infiltrate the Thieves' Guild, only to face a monstrous evil and pay a terrible price for their greed. "The Snow Women" received Nebula and Hugo Award nominations. "Ill Met in Lankhmar" won both the Nebula and Hugo Awards.
