Perfect for you if...

  • You enjoy post-apocalyptic worldbuilding that feels lived-in and grounded, where survival comes before spectacle.
  • You like character-driven fantasy where powers serve the story rather than dominate it, and families actually talk to each other.
  • You're drawn to slow-burn discovery narratives where each new ability raises practical questions: what does healing really cost?

Maybe not for you if...

  • You want action-heavy plots with clear antagonists and fast-paced conflict; this prioritises family dynamics and problem-solving.
  • You need your fantasy systems fully explained upfront; this builds its rules through lived experience and trial.
  • You prefer standalone novels; this is book two in a series and assumes familiarity with the Hyllis family.

About this book

Teleporter is the second book in a series about the Hyllis family, set in a post-apocalyptic world after a plague collapsed civilization. The Hyllis family members inherit special talents that aid their work as healers. Eva Hyllis and her ancestors can sense the insides of their patients, allowing them to diagnose underlying causes of illness, though treatment options are often limited. Her son Tarc possesses telekinesis, enabling him to move objects with his mind and sense internal bleeding, which he can stop by applying pressure. Tarc's sister Daussie discovers she can teleport small objects—a significant ability that allows her to remove gallstones and help patients with gallbladder disease. The family must leave their home in Walterston and travel dangerous roads. As they journey, questions arise about the extent of Daussie's abilities and whether their talents will be sufficient to protect themselves.
