About this book

Berlin, 1943: Ava Müller works for Joseph Goebbels as a supporter of the German war effort, while her sister Hanna serves as a nurse responding to bombing raids. They appear to be a model Nazi family until Ava discovers that her parents and Hanna are secretly working for the resistance. When Ava returns to their country home, she finds her childhood friend Eliana Goldman and her family hidden in the attic. Confronted with Eliana's account of Nazi persecution, Ava must choose between denouncing her family as she has been taught or betraying her country. As she learns the truth of what the regime has done, her previous loyalty begins to crumble. Ava joins Hanna in the resistance network, undertaking dangerous work to undermine the Reich from within its own headquarters. The sisters rely on each other for courage as they risk their lives to save others, knowing each day brings them closer to an ultimate sacrifice. This work of fiction is inspired by those who resisted the Nazis from within Germany.
