The Door in the Wall: (Newbery Medal Winner)

Winner of the Newbery Medal, this historical fiction novel is set in medieval times and follows Robin, the son of Sir John de Bureford. Robin has always been expected to learn the ways of knighthood as befits a nobleman's son. His life changes dramatically when he falls ill and loses the use of his legs. Abandoned by his frightened servants, Robin is rescued by a monk named Brother Luke, who brings him to the hospice of St. Mark's. At the hospice, Robin is taught woodcarving, patience, and strength. Brother Luke tells him, "Thou hast only to follow the wall far enough and there will be a door in it." When the great castle of Lindsay faces danger, Robin discovers that there are multiple ways to serve his king, learning to overcome the obstacles he faces.
