The Gate House (John Sutter Book 2)

The Gate House is the follow-up to The Gold Coast. Ten years after leaving America on a sailboat following his wife Susan's killing of her mafia don lover, John Sutter returns to the Gold Coast on Long Island's North Shore to attend a family servant's funeral. He takes up residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, settling a quarter mile from Susan, who has also returned to the area. John's return draws attention from Anthony Bellarosa, son of the now-deceased mafia don Frank Bellarosa and Susan's former lover. Anthony pursues two goals: pulling John back into the Bellarosa family's violent world and seeking revenge on Susan for his father's death. Meanwhile, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces, reigniting old passions and drawing John deeper into patterns of seduction and betrayal. The novel explores how past, present, and future converge in this wealthy enclave where John once knew great concentration of power and wealth.
