The Ice Angels (A Detective Elea Baker Novel)

The first in a crime series featuring Detective Elea Baker, a Finnish Crime Inspector with Nordic-noir elements. Three children have been abducted from Lincoln, England over several years: Jenny Flynn, Chelsea Hobbs, and Sophie Miller. All were taken during winter on their way home from school. When Sophie Miller is found, she is unable to speak but may possess information about the missing girls. Detective Swann recruits Elea Baker, his not-quite ex-wife, to work the case. Elea is deeply invested in these crimes—ten years earlier, her daughter Liisa was taken from Helsinki under similar circumstances, and Elea has never accepted that her daughter is dead. The narrative alternates between Elea's and Liisa's perspectives as Elea searches for connections between the missing girls. Set across the isolated, cold landscapes of England and Finland, the novel follows Elea's desperate attempt to solve the cases and find her own daughter.
