On October 5, 1892, in Coffeyville, Kansas, the gang attempted their most ambitious crime: robbing two banks simultaneously in broad daylight. Armed citizens retrieved shotguns and six-shooters from a nearby hardware store and confronted the gang as they emerged from the banks. The resulting gunfight was intense and deadly.
