The Lioness of Morocco

Sibylla Spencer is an independent woman living in nineteenth-century London whose progressive views and strong will have made her unmarriageable. At twenty-three, she remains single and feels controlled and stifled in her father's house. When Benjamin Hopkins, an ambitious employee at her father's trading company, expresses interest in her, Sibylla sees marriage as her path to freedom. As Benjamin's career advances, they relocate to Morocco, where Sibylla finally experiences the independence she craves. She conducts her first business dealings, builds relationships with locals, and falls in love with a charismatic French man. However, Benjamin's pursuit of wealth and power leads him into illegal activities that distance him from Sibylla and their two sons. When he is arrested on serious charges, Sibylla must decide whether to abandon him or fight to save his life—a choice that will determine her family's future.
