The Resemblance: A Novel

On a November morning at the University of Georgia, a fraternity member is struck and killed by a car at a busy crosswalk. More than a dozen witnesses report that the driver looked identical to the victim and was smiling. Detective Marlitt Kaplan, an Athens native and daughter of a UGA professor, arrives first at the scene. She is familiar with the university's troubled past, including historical crimes and cover-ups. As she investigates the hit-and-run, she discovers disturbing secrets within the university's Greek system and its most privileged students. Kaplan's investigation becomes personal as her police work intersects with her own history. She pursues justice against an institution that harmed her years earlier. When threats against her intensify and buried secrets begin to surface, Kaplan questions whether corruption extends beyond the university into law enforcement itself, and how far these fraternities will go to protect their members.
