The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy

Hart is a marshal who patrols the strange and magical wilds of Tanria, a job that leaves him isolated and contemplative. Mercy runs Birdsall & Son Undertakers and has little patience for people like Hart, who always seems to appear when she's at her most frustrated. After a particularly exasperating encounter, Hart writes a letter to "A Friend" seeking connection. To his surprise, he receives an anonymous reply, and the two begin a tentative friendship through correspondence. Hart has no idea that his pen pal is Mercy—the person who frustrates him most. As dangers from Tanria draw closer, Hart and Mercy's written connection deepens into romance. Their relationship faces a critical test when they discover the truth: their anonymous correspondent is their worst nightmare—each other.
