The Water Lies

Two mothers—one whose daughter has drowned and one whose toddler may have witnessed what happened—become the only ones searching for the truth. Tessa Irons, heavily pregnant with her second child, is at a local coffee shop when her toddler becomes inconsolable, repeatedly shouting "Gigi!" at a stranger. The next morning, a woman's body is pulled from the canal outside the Ironses' Venice Beach home. Tessa believes the death is connected to her son's behavior. Barb Geller, the dead woman's mother, refuses to accept that her daughter's death was an accident. She travels to California seeking answers and meets Tessa. Together, they investigate, convinced there is a connection between their children. However, police dismiss their concerns. Tessa's husband attributes her worries to pregnancy anxiety. Despite the canal's constant foot traffic, no witnesses have come forward. Tessa and Barb must rely on each other, their instincts, and the mounting sense of danger that accompanies each new discovery.
