The Whole Art of Detection: Lost Mysteries of Sherlock Holmes

This collection of short mysteries features Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, characters inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's originals. Lyndsay Faye, author of the novel Dust and Shadow and an Edgar Award finalist, has written these stories for the Strand Magazine and other publications. The collection spans Holmes's career from his early days as a self-taught detective through his faked death over a Swiss waterfall in 1894 and beyond. The stories include "The Lowther Park Mystery," in which Holmes attends a garden party at his politician brother's request and uses theater to prevent a government conspiracy, and "The Adventure of the Thames Tunnel," featuring the murder of a jewel thief in an underground railway passage. The collection also includes two previously unpublished works. Throughout these tales, Holmes and Watson encounter ungrateful relatives, fraudulent psychologists, wronged wives, criminals, and other unusual elements. The stories are set within the historical crime fiction genre.
