Triple Jeopardy: A Daniel Pitt Novel

Young lawyer Daniel Pitt must defend a British diplomat accused of theft in this novel from Anne Perry. When Daniel's sister Jemima returns to London from the United States with her family, the Pitts learn that one of her friends was assaulted in Washington, D.C., and her necklace stolen. The suspected perpetrator is Philip Sidney, a British diplomat stationed in America who has fled to London and claimed diplomatic immunity. Sidney faces a separate embezzlement charge in court, and Daniel is assigned to defend him. Daniel initially plans a minimal defense, but when an employee of the British embassy in Washington is found dead, he becomes suspicious about Sidney's crimes. Daniel investigates further and consults with scientist Miriam fford Croft, who employs advanced technologies to pursue new investigative angles. Together they travel to the Channel Islands to follow a lead. What began as a stolen necklace develops into a far more complex case involving three serious crimes, including possible murder.
