Sharon Oreck was a top music-video producer during the industry's peak in the 1980s. Video Slut offers a behind-the-scenes account of her work producing over six hundred video shoots with artists including Madonna, Sting, Mick Jagger, Prince, and members of the Jackson family, alongside various crew members and industry figures. Oreck entered the business without prior experience and went on to become one of the field's leading producers. The book also traces her personal history: growing up as a single teen mother, being disowned by her middle-class parents, and moving from welfare through kung fu movie sets to film school. Oreck recounts her experiences with humor and candor, examining both her own missteps and those of the celebrities she worked with. The result is an account of how fame, power, and money affected people in the entertainment industry, with no one—including Oreck herself—exempt from scrutiny.
