About this book

Christmas Eve, 1901. Barrister Gabriel Ward KC is occupied with a libel case involving London music hall star Topsy Tillotson and the tabloid newspaper the Nation's Voice. His work at the Inner Temple is interrupted when a severed hand arrives in the post addressed to Temple Treasurer Sir William Waring. As more packages arrive—one with fatal consequences—Gabriel realizes the Inner Temple itself, not Sir William, is the target. Someone holds a deep grudge that has already resulted in at least one death. Working with Constable Wright of the City of London Police, Gabriel must identify the culprit before an old death leads to a new murder.
