Room: A Novel

A woman and her young son, held captive for years in a small shed, finally escape and the boy experiences the outside world for the first time. To five-year-old Jack, Room is his entire world—where he was born and where he and his Ma eat, sleep, play, and learn. At night, his Ma locks him in the wardrobe before Old Nick visits. For Ma, however, Room is a prison where she has been held for seven years. Through her love for her son, she has built a life for him within this eleven-by-eleven-foot space. As Jack's curiosity grows and Ma's desperation intensifies, she recognizes that Room cannot contain them much longer. The novel explores a story of unconquerable love in harrowing circumstances and the bond between a mother and her child.
