In "Above the Gods," a religious festival prompts Socrates and his followers to examine the role of the gods in society, exploring themes of morality, religion, wisdom, and righteousness. These dramatic conversations employ vivid characterizations and lively discourse to examine the Socratic method. Murdoch, a philosopher and poet who studied with Ludwig Wittgenstein and lectured on philosophy at Oxford University, brings her philosophical expertise to this theatrical work.
