Against All Odds: A True Story of Ultimate Courage and Survival in World War II

Against All Odds tells the story of four Medal of Honor recipients from World War II who served in the same unit. Maurice "Footsie" Britt, a former professional football player, became the first American to receive every award for valor in a single war. Michael Daly was a West Point dropout who repeatedly risked his life to protect his men. Keith Ware later became the first and only draftee to attain the rank of general before serving in Vietnam; during WWII, he served alongside Audie Murphy, a Texan soldier he commanded. Each of these four men earned the Congressional Medal of Honor during the campaign to liberate Europe. Using personal interviews and primary source material, the book follows these soldiers across more than six hundred days of combat, from North Africa to Nazi Germany. After the war ended, these four warriors faced the weight of their medals and the expectations that came with them. The narrative explores whether any of them found peace after surviving against all odds.
