About this book

A preacher is found brutally murdered in a Tennessee motel room, and a beautiful, mysterious young girl is accused of the crime. Criminal defense lawyer Joe Dillard, jaded after years of practice, has wanted to leave criminal defense work but cannot resist taking on a case involving someone who might actually be innocent. Dillard faces mounting personal challenges: his drug-addicted sister has recently been released from prison, and his mother is developing Alzheimer's. Despite these troubles and the professional demands of the case, his commitment never wavers, though both threaten to destroy him. This debut novel features richly developed characters, particularly strong Southern women navigating a male-dominated culture. The story includes a plot twist and is the first book in the Joe Dillard series. A portion of profits from each Joe Dillard novel is donated to the Ballad Health Cancer Patient Assistance Fund.
