About this book

Cork O'Connor revisits a case from his past while confronting mysterious deaths in the present. Days before Halloween, Cork's son Stephen, who works for a nonprofit helping unjustly incarcerated inmates, calls with troubling news: decades ago, as newly elected sheriff of Tamarack County, Cork sent an Ojibwe man named Axel Boshey to prison for a brutal murder. Stephen believes Boshey is innocent. Cork decides to reinvestigate, but faces obstacles. The case is closed, and Boshey refuses to cooperate. As Cork digs deeper, he discovers that people in Tamarack County are willing to commit murder to prevent him from uncovering the truth. Meanwhile, Cork's seven-year-old grandson offers his own explanation for the investigation: the Windigo, a mythic cannibal ogre, has arrived in Tamarack County and will not leave until its hunger for human blood is satisfied. This is the twenty-first book in the Cork O'Connor Mystery series.
