About this book

Sixteen-year-old Arabella Ashby was born on Mars and enjoyed freedoms uncommon for girls her age, exploring the desert with her older brother. Her mother, however, considers Mars too unladylike and relocates the family to London to secure suitable marriages for her daughters. Struggles with Earth's gravity and homesickness, Arabella misses her father and their shared interest in automata. When she learns of his death, she discovers her cousin's plot to travel to Mars, murder her brother, and seize the family inheritance. To prevent this scheme, Arabella disguises herself as a boy and secures employment aboard an airship bound for Mars. The captain values her skill with the automaton navigator he designed. During the voyage, Arabella must contend with French privateers, mutiny, and the risk of being discovered. Upon reaching Mars, she finds the planet in the midst of rebellion.
