About this book

Paramhansa Yogananda's account of his spiritual journey and life story. Born in Gorakhpur, India, to a Bengali family, Yogananda describes his early search for a guru and his eventual path to becoming a monk and teacher of Kriya Yoga. In 1920, he accepted an invitation to speak at a religious congress in Boston, which led him to travel across America and establish the Self-Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles. Yogananda's work introduced Western audiences to meditation and Kriya Yoga practices. The book has remained in print for over seventy years, sold more than four million copies, and been translated into forty-six languages. It is considered a foundational text in bringing Hindu spiritual philosophy and practice to the West.
