About this book

Commissario Guido Brunetti, a police commissioner in Venice, faces daily challenges including crimes, corruption, and tourism. During an interrogation of a suspect in a drug case involving a young girl, Brunetti acts impulsively in a way he soon regrets. Seeking recovery from this incident, he takes leave from the Questura and travels with his wife to a villa on Sant'Erasmo, one of the largest islands in the lagoon. He plans to spend his time rowing and reading Pliny's Natural History. His retreat is interrupted when the house's caretaker, a widowed beekeeper who has become his friend, disappears following a sudden storm. Brunetti must abandon his leave to investigate what happened to the man. This novel is the twenty-sixth in the Commissario Brunetti series.
