Perfect for you if...

  • You're fascinated by WWII history and want to understand how one of the worst criminals was finally caught.
  • You appreciate first-hand accounts from people who were actually there, not reconstructed narratives.
  • You're interested in the psychological cat-and-mouse game between captor and captive, and what it reveals about evil.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer fictional thrillers over non-fiction accounts, even when they're genuinely gripping.
  • You find Holocaust-related content too heavy or emotionally demanding to engage with right now.
  • You're looking for a fast-paced spy novel rather than a thoughtful historical memoir.

About this book

In 1960, a covert team of Israeli agents located Adolf Eichmann in Argentina, the most wanted Nazi war criminal alive and chief architect of the Holocaust. Peter Z. Malkin, a young spy, physically captured Eichmann on a Buenos Aires street. For decades, Malkin's role in the capture remained secret. He now recounts the full account: the genesis of the top-secret surveillance operation, the dramatic capture, and Eichmann's smuggling to Israel for trial. The narrative presents two men in parallel. One is a freedom fighter, intellectually curious and motivated by a sense of justice. The other is Eichmann, who through intimate conversations with Malkin, emerges as embodying what Hannah Arendt termed "the banality of evil." The book explores themes of justice and humanity through this firsthand account of one of history's significant manhunts.
