Ellis Island: A Novel

Set in the 1920s, this novel follows Ellie Hogan, who has been childhood sweethearts with her husband John on their Irish farm. When John, a soldier for the Irish Republican Army, sustains an injury that prevents him from working, Ellie is forced to emigrate to New York City to work as a maid for a wealthy socialite. In America, Ellie encounters a world of luxury and sophistication. She is drawn to the glamour of parties, fine clothing, wealth, and mansions, and receives attention from a charming suitor who can offer her a comfortable life. However, her heart remains with her husband in Ireland. Ellie must decide between building a new life in America with hope and promise, or returning to poverty and the love she left behind.
