Evidence of the Affair

A short story told entirely through letters that unfolds the consequences of an affair between two couples. Carrie Allsop, a young woman in Southern California, writes to David Mayer, a stranger she has never met. Through their correspondence, Carrie and David gradually reveal the painful details of the affair involving their spouses. As they exchange letters, they share their fears, confess their confusion about how their marriages deteriorated, and contemplate what comes next. The narrative also includes letters from the two people involved in the affair itself. Together, these four voices explore how the heart responds to betrayal and infidelity, and examine what it means for one woman to find liberation through heartbreak.
