Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11

Fall and Rise presents a detailed account of the events of September 11, 2001, across New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Mitchell Zuckoff, a Boston Globe reporter who covered the attacks and their aftermath, spent years conducting additional reporting to create this narrative. The book weaves together accounts from people directly affected by the day's events: an out-of-work actor trapped in an elevator in the North Tower of the World Trade Center; passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 who decided to take action; a veteran caught in the Pentagon; the fire chief among the first responders in Shanksville; firefighters working to rescue an injured woman; and travelers who were in the air when the attacks occurred. Zuckoff draws on interviews with survivors and accounts of those lost to construct a minute-by-minute narrative of September 11. The book aims to provide new perspectives on the events of that day and the ordinary people who experienced it.
