Feather Castles is the sixth novel by Patricia Veryan and the second book in the Sanguinet Saga. The story begins at dusk on the ruined battlefields of Waterloo, where Rachel Strand travels in a carriage with her friend and teacher Sister Maria Evangeline. Rachel is engaged to the wealthy and powerful Claude Sanguinet, and the two women are searching desperately for a particular man among the thousands of wounded soldiers. During their search, they encounter a badly wounded young soldier who saves them from plunderers despite his injuries. This soldier cannot remember his own name or nationality. What follows is a tale that spans both sides of the English Channel, moving between elegant drawing rooms, a magnificent country estate, and various taverns and hostelries. The narrative centers on the apparently star-crossed love between Rachel and this unnamed man whose identity remains a mystery.
