Fever: A Novel

Nico Storm and his father, Willem, drive a truck filled with essential supplies through post-apocalyptic South Africa. They are among the few survivors of a devastating virus that has swept across the planet. Nico, an Afrikaner boy with exceptional marksmanship and composure, becomes his father's protector despite his youth. Willem, though not a fighter, is a wise and compassionate man who envisions rebuilding a new community from the ruins. Willem founds Amanzi, gathering survivors including Melinda Swanevelder (rescued from brutal thugs), Hennie Fly (who brings a vital Cessna plane), Beryl Fortuin and her group of orphans, and Domingo, a man with a tattooed hand. The arrival of Sofia Bergman, whom Nico finds beautiful, transforms the community. As Amanzi grows, so do its challenges—from attacks by biker brigands and internal conflicts. Years later, Nico reflects on the traumatic events that culminated in the murder of the person he loved most.
