Fighting the Kaiser's War: The Saxons in Flanders, 1914/1918

While personal accounts from British soldiers in the Great War are widely available, firsthand accounts from the German perspective remain uncommon. This book presents the wartime experiences of ten Saxon soldiers who faced British forces in Flanders, drawing on their diaries and correspondence. The soldiers profiled range from front-line trench fighters to a brigade commander. Their individual stories serve to illustrate the broader experiences of thousands of others who fought and died in Flanders with the Royal Saxon Army. The book includes over 300 wartime photographs and images, many previously unpublished, that document the German experience of the war and provide detail about how Saxon soldiers lived and died in Flanders.
